The land of Mathura has great sanctity among the Hindus as it is famed as the birthplace of much loved deity Lord Krishna. The entire land is dotted with splendid temples, dedicated to various aspects of the Lord’s life. The streets and ghats of the city still resound to the chores and magical flute of Krishna.
Mathura is crowned as one of the seven sacred cities in Hinduism and floods with pilgrims particularly during Krishna Janmashtami (Krishna’s Birthday). The city is stretched along the Yamuna river which together makes 25 sacred ghats in the city. The festival of holi is celebrated in one of the most passionate fashions here.
Vishram Ghat

Best time to visit: Evening 6:30 PM at the time of Aarti
Vishram ghat is the chief worship place in Mathura and is situated on the banks of Yamuna River. The ghat is surrounded by some of the most important shrines in the city and the evening Aarti is something not to be missed. Witnessing the Aarti as hundreds and hundreds of oil lambs are floated into Yamuna only to sparkle the entire river until its horizons is absolutely mesmerizing.
Krishna Janmasthan Temple
Timings: Morning 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM | Afternoon 2:00 Pm to 8:00 PM
Best time to visit: Early Morning
This temple is the most famous temple of Mathura and is believed to be built around the jail cell where Lord Krishna was born. Inside the temple, a visitor would find paintings of scenes from Lord’s life and idols of Krishna, Radha (his beloved) and Balrama (his elder brother).
Kans Qila
Timings: Open 24 hours
Best time to visit: Sunset
Here you shall find the ruins of the fort of the evil king Kans, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. The fort is situated on the ghats of river Yamuna and was later restructured by Raja Jai Singh.
Dwarkadhish Temple
Timings: Morning 6:30 AM to 11:00 AM | Afternoon 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Best time to visit:Evening at the time of Aarti
Situated at the heart of the city, Dwarkadhish temple is painted in elaborate colors and designed with dedication. The temple was built by Seth Gokul Das in 1814 and lies along the banks of Gomti river.
